With all the fanfare of ChatGPT hitting the mainstream and AI & Machine Learning tools already being put out there in the music space, many artists are concerned that their future is in jeopardy.

Their concerns are compounded because there are music companies in existence who purely want to create AI-derived music, while some major DSPs have revealed they're already populating their platforms with tracks entirely created through AI and the major labels have already gotten involved with creating virtual artists.

It's fair that artists might feel threatened, but the truth is that the advent of mainstream AI and machine learning applications has the potential to entirely remove all mundane, mind-numbing, and creative stifling work that most humans currently have to do.

Leaving humans to do what we do best, which is to create things - create art, in whatever form we feel called to create.

Furthermore, we humans truly appreciate the craft that other humans participate in and the art that we create in doing so.

This has been the case throughout history and will always be the case while we are here on earth.

An original painting, an original sculpture, an original hand-crafted piece of furniture or an originally signed vinyl by your favorite artist.

These are all things that have huge value to humans despite there being versions of all of these that are made by machines or produced at mass.

There are also way too many humans already wanting to be and trying to be artists out there in the world than there are artists who are doing it as their livelihood.

This fact means there is no need for the world to suddenly be populated with purely AI-derived music.

In almost every situation, when there is no need for a solution, then anyone who tries to create one is setting themselves up for big disappointment.

The good news for creators in the music business is that these tools create more time for musicians, producers, and songwriters to focus on the creative elements of their craft.

AI-driven tools can help artists craft original music faster and with increased precision.

AI can be used to create interesting beats or melodies that a human would never think of, creating entirely new sounds, in the same way that a newly designed instrument would do.

Machine learning will make it easier on the business and administration side, by helping to manage the licensing and royalty components of an artist's business, as well as support in providing analytics and in automating actions that need to be completed, but are not complimentary to an artist's creativity.

Ultimately, at the core, being an artist is still about connecting with an audience in a meaningful way and creating something unique that stimulates their desire, curiosity, and intent to want to know and consume the art created.

I truly believe that just like the internet has revolutionized the world and brought us all closer together, AI and Machine learning will bring about the next revolution: the revolution of artists!
